Sometimes a project unfolds in an unexpected way. It all began with a fascination for those big rotating cement trucks and the secret desire to make a design for them someday. We took the plunge and started looking for possibilities to turn this idea into reality. Soon we were informed by Kijlstra Betonmortel that they had a truck with a brand new drum, unaffected, and that we could do with it whatever we wanted!
The rotation of the drum at various speeds became the starting point for the design. With the early music of modern composer Steve Reich and the visual quality of the punch card in mind, we created a pattern in which different rhythms and speeds always result in a different image.
A boy's dream come true.
